Senior Advisor / Associate Director

With the Executive Director of Degrees Matter!, this position assists with planning and managing all programmatic functions of DM, including coordinating outreach activities, preparing program reports. She/he is responsible for the project's data collection and management information software (Salesforce), evaluating program activities, and program public relations. This individual provides direct advising to all potential comebackers and provides information on student financial assistance, and serves as the lead training and coordinator for all additional advisors and volunteers. This position is grant-funded for 1 year with the possibility of renewal based on receiving additional funding.
Job description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the ED with coordinating volunteers
  • Provides information to new and current Comebackers as well as reviewing Comebacker progress
  • Provides direct advising, hands-on help, and referrals
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly updates utilizing the management information software Salesforce (will be responsible for providing monthly work reports to the Executive Director)
  • Identify clients' needs and refer to other social service agencies, when appropriate
  • Maintain individual caseload reports, records, and documentation
  • Assist in developing and organizing Degrees Matter! special events
  • Assist with public information campaign activities and outreach
  • Provides current data tracking on returning students
  • Refers eligible and ineligible students to appropriate agencies for proper services
  • Acts as a liaison between target schools, community agencies, associations, organizations, and local businesses
  • Develops, implements and supervises the process for tracking current and former participants including secondary progression and completion, postsecondary admission, enrollment and graduation, and financial aid application completion
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable of basic admission and transfer student requirements
  • Ability to assess the needs of educationally disadvantaged students
  • Ability to make sound, feasible decisions in a timely manner
  • Ability to function independently
  • Advising and coaching training is preferred, or experience in an environment where you utilized
  • an advising and coaching model
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of administrators, faculty, students, and the community
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, define problems for the purpose of reporting, while maintaining confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other client management systems
  • Social media savvy (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Preferred:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and specific computer programs related to the area of responsibility
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to speak a foreign language, Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
  • Knowledgeable of workforce initiatives
  • Understanding of Guilford County and the various business industries herein 
Education & Background:
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, student development, higher education administration, public administration, management or related field preferred (other degree types may be considered). At least three (1-2) years of experience providing educational and support services in a postsecondary institution or other college access program strongly preferred. Experience managing student/relationship database strongly preferred. Grant writing and program report experience is preferred, and direct advising and coaching experience is required.
