Project Director

Youth Forward supercharges and strengthens the capacity of local, youth nonprofits and seeks a Program Director to lead our organization through an upcoming period of growth. We seek a dynamic leader that will serve the community of Chapel Hill-Carrboro by linking youth services, youth organizations, and the greater community. This director reports directly to the projects Advisory Board and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our organization, ensuring that we are operating efficiently and effectively to meet business goals. In this role, you will be the face of our company, working closely with the Advisory Board, government officials and the public.

Youth Forward supports the development of youth and strengthens the capacity of organizations in three primary ways:

Building the capacity of nonprofits by providing free training in relation to nonprofit management; including grant applications, board planning, communications strategies, and more.

Creates connections via community events, our ConnectMe! App, and the Youth Forward website. We recognize that connecting existing resources is more efficient and provides more impact than simply working alone.

Distributes grants (totaling more than $300,000 since 2013) through our Bridging the Gap and Youth Investment funds to nonprofits in Chapel Hill-Carrboro, which focus on under-served populations and work to address the lack of out-of-school/summer programming.

Job description:


Research and find new funding for Youth Forward Project

Develop long-term sustainability plan for Youth Forward.

Staff and manage outreach and engagement activities, including being the community interface.

Provide administrative oversight of overall operation of the Project.

Manage the activities of the Advisory Board that will provide policy and strategic direction for the project and oversee allocation of re-grant fund activities.

Manage website.

Coordinate the projects communications and marketing activities.

Provide and facilitate provision of technical assistance to nonprofits.

Plan and manage the Projects programs and events.

Research and evaluation (data collection, analysis, and best-practice research).


The role of the Project Director is to oversee day to day activities and task of the Youth Forward project; including but not limited to website management; oversight of grant fund activity, management of Projects Advisory Board activities, fundraising, communication and marketing, and event planning.


As the face of Youth Forward you will:

Learn about and interact with area nonprofits, provide and facilitate professional development, training, and delivery of technical assistance to nonprofits.

Coordinate collaboration among the nonprofit sector serving youth, the business sector, the private funding community, Chapel Hill and Carrboro town governments, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and other community entities and individuals involved or invested in Chapel Hill and Carrboro youth.


Minimum 3 years experience working in the role of Executive Director or similar development experience with nonprofit foundations.

Leadership experience with fiscal management and budgeting, fundraising, programming and evaluation, grant writing and engagement of stakeholders.

Inclusive leadership style; demonstrated ability to work independently; detail oriented, forward thinking

Ability to think strategically and critically.

Masters degree in relevant field or Bachelors degree with extensive work experience.


Ability to work independently with a great degree of self direction

Working knowledge of Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Working knowledge of current social media communication methods and website management

Familiarity or proficiency with Wordpress and mailing systems software, such as, Mailchimp.

Effective writing and public speaking skills.

Leadership Experience, including board and budget management


While performing duties of this job, the position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen.
