North Carolina Community Foundation Announces New Grant Opportunity

The NC Community Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of this year’s competitive grants program of the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment. This program is the fourth annual competitive cycle from the Endowment, which supports nonprofit organizations serving education, health and human services in 41 eastern North Carolina counties.

Dogwood Health Trust Invests more than $1 million in Rutherford County’s Homelessness Services with Grant to Out of the Ashes

Asheville, N.C. – Pat Chamberlain, Founder and Executive Director of Out of the Ashes, shared that the people seeking help from his organization often have nowhere else to go, having exhausted all traditional sources of assistance. And as the only dedicated homeless shelter in Rutherford and Polk Counties, they are always at capacity. Now, thanks to a $1,181,000 grant from Dogwood Health Trust, they have purchased a new property that will add nearly 50 beds and address critical – and previously unmet – needs.

John Rex Endowment Awards $600K to Build Strength of Two Collaboratives

The John Rex Endowment Board of Directors approved $600,000 in grants to two grassroots collaboratives that support the Endowment’s desired impact that all children and their families are safe, healthy and living to their full potential. Grants were awarded to the collaborative of The RWA Center, ACLA and Young Men 4 Christ and to the collaborative of Village of Wisdom, Education Justice Alliance and ISLA NC.

Foundation Gains New Leadership for its Second Century of Service to Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 17, 2021)—Today, the Foundation’s governing body, The Winston-Salem Foundation Committee, announces the appointment of LaTida Smith as the fifth president of the 101-year-old community foundation. Smith is the current president and CEO of the Moses Taylor Foundation, and she will join the Foundation’s staff on September 1, 2021.

Outer Banks Community Foundation Announces Christopher Sawin to Serve as its President and Chief Executive Officer

Southern Shores, NC, June 16, 2021 — The Outer Banks Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has voted unanimously to hire Christopher Sawin as President and Chief Executive Officer. Sawin, who comes to the Community Foundation from Dare County Arts Council, will officially start in his new role effective August 1. Sawin joins the Community Foundation at a challenging and exciting time in its nearly 40-year local history. He fills a role left vacant by Lorelei Costa, who departed in March 2021 to lead Suffolk (Virginia) Center for the Cultural Arts, after eight years of exemplary service to our community.
