Executive Director

Founded by seven-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife Chandra, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation is dedicated to assisting children, families and communities in need.  The foundation currently focuses on K-12 public education.  To date, the foundation has distributed more than $12.4 million.  The foundation is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Executive Director is responsible for facilitating all foundation programs, events, and activities.  The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
Job description:
Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Making
  • Oversee the foundation’s current grantmaking programs:
    • Jimmie Johnson Foundation Champions Grant program
    • Team Up For Technology
    • Helmet of Hope
  • Responsible for evaluating data, metrics and impact of grantmaking programs
  • Profile new charitable requests and proposals
  • Develop annual fundraising plan
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective donors
  • Maintain relationships with current individual and corporate donors, including top corporate partners and program sponsors
  • Secure sponsorships for all foundation events and programs including:
    • Jimmie Johnson Foundation Annual Golf Tournament
    • Champions Grant program
    • Helmet of Hope
    • Team Up For Technology
  • Profile new fundraising opportunities for the foundation
  • Manage the Raiser’s Edge donor database
Programs and Events
  • Manage all aspects of events and programs, including but not limited to:
  • Event logistics (venue, vendors, etc.)
  • Event volunteer recruitment and oversight
  • Program participant outreach
  • Event/program communications
Board of Directors
  • Work with the Board of Directors to shape the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the foundation
  • Coordinate and organize meetings of the Board of Directors
  • Provide status reports and updates to Board of Directors
  • Manage relationship with Creative Agency of Record
  • Manage the Jimmie Johnson Foundation website and eNewsletter
  • Oversee creation and updates of foundation videos and other promotional assets
  • Draft and approve press releases
  • Assist with social media
  • Create and manage the annual budget and cash flow for the foundation
  • Work in concert with bookkeeping/payroll agency
  • Oversee annual State Solicitation registration process, audit and preparation of 990
Employee Management
  • Supervise, train and motivate Jimmie Johnson Foundation staff and volunteers
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of ten years professional experience, with a minimum of five years of non-profit experience
  • Grantmaking experience preferred
  • Experience with K-12 public education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship building ability
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Online Express, Blackbaud Merchant Services, or similar donor database and payment service
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must
    • Ideal candidate should have the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, work independently and as part of a team, and work in a fast-paced environment.
