Scholarship Program Manager

Golden LEAF is seeking a Scholarship Program Manager to lead implementation of the Golden LEAF Scholarship Programs for 2- and 4-Year institutions. This is a newly created position to support an increased focus on outreach and engagement in addition to enhanced program elements. Job description:

This position will be responsible for leading outreach and engagement efforts with future, current, and former Golden LEAF Scholars and stakeholders. This position will also manage scholarship grant awards to administering entities as well awards for administration of leadership and internship program elements. This position will report directly to the Director of External Affairs. 
Golden LEAF anticipates to achieve the following outcomes as a result of increased focus on outreach and engagement and enhanced program elements:

  • Increase awareness among students, parents, teachers, and other key stakeholders of the scholarship program as a cornerstone of Golden LEAF’s work 

  • Deepen the scholars’ connection to and knowledge of the Golden LEAF Foundation and rural North Carolina

  • Ensure full utilization of available scholarship, internship, and leadership development funds by the educational institutions and program administrators

  • Increase number of applications from qualifying counties to ensure broad geographic reach 

  • Develop a grassroots network of Golden LEAF Scholar alumni and other program stakeholders including leadership experience coaches with strong connection to the mission of Golden LEAF and rural North Carolina and who can serve as student mentors, coaches, and program advocates for not only the scholarship program but for all Golden LEAF activities.

Outreach and Engagement 
This position will lead outreach and engagement with future, current, and former scholars and serve as the primary point of contact for the program. For all scholars and program elements, the position will be responsible for the following: 

  • Develop and maintain a database of interested, current, and former Golden LEAF Scholars as well as high school counselors and other stakeholders. 

  • Maintain records to support key performance indicators and data points related to the program. A primary focus of alumni outreach will be gathering information regarding employment status and county of residence. 

  • Establish and maintain mechanisms for regular communication and building rapport with current and former Golden LEAF scholars through email and social media as well as other available means. 

  • Coordinate outreach with the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), the State Education Assistance Authority (SEAA) or other contractors involved in implementation of the scholarship program. It is anticipated the majority of this outreach will be to high school guidance counselors, but also involve engagement with other school personnel (FFA, future health professionals clubs, other extracurricular activities tied to the Golden LEAF mission) as well as other local stakeholders and participating community colleges, colleges, and universities. 

  • Identify, develop, and execute opportunities for on-campus events with Golden LEAF Scholars. 

  • Review data and analyze trends in the number of awards to identify community colleges with underutilization to identify opportunities for targeted outreach or other support to be provided.

  • Establish and maintain a mechanism for tracking anecdotal employment outcomes (either in the same database as 4-Year students or separately as available through the NCCCS).

Review, Evaluation, and Compliance Monitoring (in coordination with Golden LEAF Programs Staff)
Serve as the Program lead for how the Golden LEAF Scholarship is deployed in combination with other available financial aid, leadership, and internship programs.

  • Have or develop subject matter knowledge regarding relevant financial aid programs and requirements and how those programs and requirements affect the Golden LEAF scholarship programs. 

  • Communicate with grantees/contractors and evaluate proposals for alignment with Golden LEAF funding priorities and priority outcomes as they relate to the Golden LEAF Scholarship Program. 

  • Complete due diligence required to fully understand each proposal, budget, and process for selection and implementation of each element of the Golden LEAF Scholarship Program.

  • Perform the duties described in the Foundation’s Grant Monitoring Policy, or any supplemental guidance, for grants or contracts with entities in support of the Golden LEAF Scholarship program. Entities currently include the State Education Assistance Authority, the N.C. Community College System, and the Center for Creative Leadership and in the future are expected to include contracts related to implementation of the internship and other components of the scholarship program.

Marketing and Communications

  • This position will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and regularly monitoring for accuracy websites that include information regarding the program or any element. 

  • This position is also responsible for ensuring that any press releases or other marketing done by contractors is in compliance with Golden LEAF policies and has been reviewed by the Communications Officer and approved by the Director of External Affairs.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills and a proven ability to handle competing external and internal deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The ability and temperament to pivot priorities on short-notice is an essential requirement.

  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Energetic, self-motivated, and comfortable in public speaking situations.

  • High standard of excellence, accuracy and consistency, personal integrity, and accountability.

  • Familiarity with rural North Carolina and attraction to the mission of the Golden LEAF Foundation is highly desired.

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

  • A four-year degree.

  • Experience working in external facing roles and/or with student financial aid is preferred.

  • Golden LEAF will conduct a criminal background check and may conduct additional background checks and drug tests of applicants prior to extending an offer for employment.

Also have or demonstrate a willingness to develop proficiency in (training and technical assistance will be provided as needed):

  • Common social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)

  • Database management system (AirTable or similar)

  • Email blast service (MailChimp or similar)

Compensation and Benefits
The Scholarship Program Manager position is a full-time, professional position with compensation and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated hiring range of $65,000 – $80,000.
