Executive Director

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Impact Health, the Network Lead (NL) of Western North Carolina’s (WNC’s) Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program (“HOP” or “Pilot”). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the NL, and ensuring it meets and exceeds HOP contract requirements. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and CEO of Dogwood.

Essential Job Functions

  • Department Liaison. Serves as key contact with the Department and has responsibility of ensuring that Impact Health meets all NL requirements. Works closely with the Department as the Pilot progresses to ensure the NL model results in improvement in outcomes for participants.
  • Board Governance. Works with the Board of Directors, including all associated subcommittees, in order to fulfill the NL’s mission. Responsible for leading Impact Health in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors, communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • ‚ÄčFinancial Performance and Viability. Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the NL. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Impact Health to include submission to the Board of a proposal annual budget and monthly financial statements (including that related to both capacity development and NL administration), which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. Fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position; developing other resources necessary to support the mission. 
  • Organization Mission and Strategy. Works with Board and staff to ensure that the NL’s mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach. Responsible for implementation of programs that carry out the organization’s mission; strategic planning to ensure the mission is successfully fulfilled into the future; and active and visible image enhancement in the community by working closely with other professional, public and private organizations.
  • Organization Operations. Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.


  • Bachelor’s degree required with 5 or more years of senior non-profit management experience.

  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Ability to convey a strategic vision to staff, Board, and community partners.
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate staff, Board members and other community partners.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse staff, Board members, state agencies, and community partners; and
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • High-level and detail-oriented ability to manage a complex government contract.

Essential Physical Skills

This position requires frequent sitting, standing and occasional walking; occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to ten pounds and must infrequently lift more than twenty pounds or carry objects with both hands and arms. This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment. This person must speak clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone. The employee must be able to receive and understand written and oral communication and give writing and oral instructions. This position requires the ability to calculate mathematic problems and frequently requires visual acuity at 20 inches or less to review written documents.

Environmental Conditions
