POSITION TITLE:     Communications Specialist (Contractor)
 
REPORTS TO:          Vice President, Marketing & Communications
 
OVERVIEW:
The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (CFGG) is a public charity dedicated to strengthening the greater community of Greensboro, North Carolina. Under the direction of a volunteer board of community leaders, the Foundation receives charitable funds from donors, invests those funds, distributes funds to charitable causes and provides services and grants to nonprofit agencies and the community. PROJECT SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist will be tasked with online and offline communication projects to increase the Foundation’s engagement and brand awareness with current and prospective stakeholders. The contractor is responsible for content creation and basic graphic design for multiple social media platforms, e-newsletters, and print collateral. They will report user feedback and engagement metrics to make improvements and sustain effective communication efforts. The consultant will research the latest trends and best practices in social media, e-communications, and traditional communications. Skill set should include exceptional writing skills, job-related social media experience, creativity, strong organization skills, and a collaborative work ethic.
 
 
Job description:
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media. Develop engaging content and graphics for social media posts across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Prepare weekly and monthly content calendar for review by team. Manage CFGG’s main social media accounts and individual channels (Women to Women Fund, Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund, Public Art Endowment, Future Fund, and Teen Grantmaking Council). Actively connect with social media audiences and create reels, hashtags, videos, highlights, contests, campaigns, and other features to grow online engagement.
 
E-Communications. Write content and create graphics for CFGG’s bi-monthly e-newsletter and other email blasts. Work across departments to develop topics, updates, and highlights. Compose, construct, edit, A/B test, and send e-communications via Constant Contact. Fix e-mail bounce backs and update mailing lists. Upload e-newsletters and other communications to CFGG website. Grow subscribers and open rates.
 
Blogs & Opinion Pieces. Calendar and coordinate monthly opinion pieces such as website blogs, letters to the editors, and opinion editorials (Op Eds) on CFGG issues and investments. Recruit authors from CFGG staff, volunteers, and supporters and align topics to monthly themes and CFGG (e.g., Black History Month). Ensure meaningful call-to-actions and requests for community support and share via social media and e-communications. Track engagement and share results with team.
 
 
 
Print Collateral. Collaborate with the Development and Donor Engagement (DADE) team and other departments to draft and design print ready and PDF materials such as marketing and outreach collateral, special event mailings and invitations, brochures and fact sheets, sponsorship ads, and other small-scale desktop publishing projects. Coordinate with external graphic designers, print companies, and mailing services, on large-scale projects and print pieces.
 
Multi-Media. Serve as secondary photographer, videographer, editor, and curator of CFGG’s media assets that can be used across all platforms, channels, and materials. This can include documenting special events, recording short-form interviews, developing graphics for presentations, and other audiovisual projects. Assist with creating and posting multimedia content to the CFGG website.

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ years of experience in communications or related field with a preference for creating content for social media and e-communications
  • Outstanding written communication skills and experience in writing, proofing, and editing, and an exceptional attention to detail
  • Intermediate graphic design skills and basic video editing skills
  • Experience working with graphic designers, photographers, videographers, writers, event-related contractors, and other vendors
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple tasks and work under pressure in a changing environment
  • Strong initiative and self-directing skills, creativity, and promotion of innovation
  • Ability to be versatile, flexible, and manage effectively in a changing environment
