Operations and Communications Coordinator

The North Carolina Network of Grantmakers (NCNG) is a membership association that connects and supports a diverse community of 115 grantmaking organizations committed to learning and working together. This community of funders is made up of private foundations, community foundations, family foundations and corporate giving programs. NCNG connects, equips, and inspires grantmakers through networking, educational and professional development programs throughout the year.
 

Job Summary

The Operations and Communications Coordinator is critical to organizational operations and takes a leadership role in communications planning for NCNG. This position reports to the Executive Director.

They will oversee the development, design, and distribution of NCNG’s resources, marketing materials, and online communications. They will also manage the website and database to ensure effective communications with our members, prospects and partners. This role will also work with the Program Director on event logistics and meeting preparations including the NCNG Annual Meeting, and assist the executive director on board communications and payment coding and processing.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer with attention to detail, will enjoy working with a small and energetic team, and is interested in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.
 
Job description:

Communications Responsibilities

  • Write, design and distribute materials to highlight events and resources and to engage NCNG’s member organizations and other partners.
  • Manage the NCNG marketing calendar
  • Work with the Program Director to write marketing and events copy, including management of content in event apps
  • Manage and update the NCNG website including the jobs board, news items, events, and resources pages. Troubleshoot website and database issues and make recommendations for improvements
  • Manage the NCNG member database – update contact information, track user engagement, provide technical assistance and access information to users, and create reports. Analyze and present information to staff and board
  • Draft talking points and presentations for the Executive Director
  • Moderate Learning Community listservs and provide technical assistance to NCNG members, as necessary
  • Ensure brand cohesion across virtual and print platforms
  • Other tasks and activities as required to build NCNG’s reputation and engage our membership

Operations and Logistics Responsibilities

  • Set up virtual meetings including registration, recording, polls, and event follow-up
  • Prepare meeting agendas, nametags, materials, and work with NCNG vendors for in-person events
  • Work with Program Director on logistics/planning for the Annual Meeting and Conference
  • Maintain organizational and event calendars
  • Organize membership renewal process and tracking (in partnership with Executive Director)
  • Process/code incoming and outgoing payments
  • Regularly update NCNG staff manual
  • Work with Executive Director to communicate with the NCNG Board
  • Track technology and marketing budgets

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience or education in a communications role
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong and demonstrated writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and in an entrepreneurial fashion - as well as to be an enthusiastic part of the NCNG Team
  • Excellent relationship building/member service skills
  • Understanding of the North Carolina philanthropic, nonprofit and social/civic sector landscape
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Office and Zoom and a willingness to learn other platforms (including Whova, Kentico, and Excel)
  • Willingness to participate in an all-hands-on-deck small team environment including logistical support for events (e.g. meeting preparation, set-up, breakdown, etc.)
 

Compensation and Work Location

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000, based on experience, for a 35-hour work week; benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, short-and long-term disability insurance, retirement benefits, as well as paid vacation and holidays.
 
NCNG’s offices are in Raleigh, N.C., and the team generally works in the office 2-3 days/week. We are open to a “mostly-remote,” North Carolina-based candidate, if they’re willing to meet at the Raleigh offices for occasional planning, conference preparations, and team-building work.
 
Other travel will occur in conjunction with NCNG programs – usually only 1-2 in-state engagements/month. Position includes support for professional development – some of which may be located out of state.
