Accounting Specialist

Primary Functions
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing accounting/financial support and human resources assistance. The Accounting Specialist reports to the Controller. The primary focus of this role is accounting/financial support.

Accounting/Financial

  • Process operating and grantee payments
  • Verify account balances for grantee payments and operating accounts
  • Post accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Maintain vendor records
  • Prepare bank deposits and maintain deposit ledger
  • Implement wire transfers and maintain wire transfer and signatory authorization records
  • Record journal entries for payroll in general ledger (salaries, retirement, payroll taxes, etc.)
  • Manage Treasury & QuickBooks Software
  • Manage various reporting requirements
  • Continually assess and ensure compliance with internal controls 
  • Support preparation of account reconciliations
  • Support preparation of Sales Tax Refund Form
  • Assist with schedules for Form 990 Tax Returns

Human Resources 

  • Support of human resource activities including, but not limited to, assisting with matters related to  employee benefits, monitoring vacation and sick leave accrual, and maintaining employee records
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of an HR portal for employees
  • Assist with the development and oversight of HR-related training for employees
  • Manage upload and download of data within ADP applications (i.e. Timekeeping)

  • Familiarity with rural North Carolina and commitment to the mission of the Golden LEAF Foundation is highly desired

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in an accounting/finance role or at least three years of experience performing the tasks listed above in the Accounting/Financial section
  • Knowledge/understanding of internal control practices 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge/understanding of common employee benefits including health insurance and leave (vacation and sick time)
  • Experience in researching, developing, or implementing new processes to streamline and improve workflows, with preference for experience that includes the use of new technology 
  • Experience utilizing QuickBooks

Compensation:
$55,000 – $65,000
