Director of Community Investment

By stewarding and growing donors’ gifts, NCCF makes a  powerful impact through a robust grants and scholarships program, awarding over $300 million since 1988. 

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate with a strong business and people leadership background to fill the role of Director of Community Investment. 

Summary: 
The Director of Community Investment is responsible for directing the Foundation’s grants and scholarship  teams and oversight of the administration of charitable distributions from all fund types. This position also  supports and manages the regional program officer team that works with non-profit organizations and  advances grantmaking and scholarships in designated regions of the state. Job description:
Core responsibilities include: 
Leadership  
• Work closely with VP of Philanthropic Services to develop and evaluateverall community  investment, grantmaking and scholarship strategies.  
• Lead and deliver the foundation’s grantmaking, scholarship, and program officer strategies, policies,  practices, and activities.  
• Lead, mentor, and advise team of grant, scholarship, program officer, and operations staff supporting  and executing foundation’s community investment work.  
• Implement strategies to address continuous staff development and process efficiencies. 
• Build and maintain awareness of emerging legal issues, trends, and innovative ideas in grantmaking,  community investment and scholarships administration.  
• Collect and analyze data on the foundation’s grantmaking, scholarship, and program officer impact  and trends. 
• Serve as a member of the extended leadership team, including other directors and members of the  senior leadership team to assist with organizational planning and project management. 
• Work with Marketing & Communications to develop creative ways to share stories of impact, raise  awareness and enhance exposure.  
• Work with the Director of Donor Engagement to provide learning opportunities for donors and fund  advisors regarding current nonprofit programs, trends, discussions, and other forms of engagement. 
• Ensure effective and clear communication around grantmaking and scholarships for external and  internal stakeholders.  
• Represent the Foundation in external community networks and committee meetings as needed,  including preparing presentations about the Community Foundation and its services.  

Grantmaking Programs and Administration  
• Oversee the Foundation’s discretionary and non-discretionary charitable distributions for all fund  types, ensuring effective and efficient administration, adherence to procedures, accurate  recordkeeping, and compliance with all IRS, legal, and NCCF requirements.  
• Set vetting protocols for all distributions, including necessary research, quality control and due  diligence.  
• Oversee and manage procedures for all grant programs of the Foundation, including vetting,  application and evaluation materials, instructions, tools, communications for applicants, reviewers,  and grantees, and online system use and integration.  
• Understand data and outputs of primary & grantmaking CRM platforms and other supporting  database functionality and processes.  
• Work with Director of Community Leadership to execute and evaluate affiliate grantmaking, including  processes, timeline, grant chair training, promotion, application and materials.  

Scholarship Program  
• Oversee the Foundation’s scholarship program, ensuring effective, efficient, and impactful  scholarship application, promotion, administration, awarding, monitoring, and distributing  scholarships, complying with legal, IRS, NCCF policies and compliance with donor fund agreements.  
• Set and ensure adherence to scholarship program timelines, procedures and deliverables, ensuring  accurate record-keeping and process documentation.  
• Develop, oversee, and evaluate the process, instructions, tools, and materials for applicants,  scholarship administrators, fundholders, and reviewers pertaining to scholarship application and  evaluation. 
• Understand data and outputs of primary & scholarship administration CRM platforms and other  supporting database functionality and processes.  
• Work with Marketing & Communications on developing and implementing strategies to promote  scholarships throughout North Carolina.  
• Work with the Director of Development on new scholarship fund prospects to ensure successful  development of fund in alignment with Foundation policies and procedures.  
• Work with Director of Donor Engagement to provide learning opportunities for donors and fund  advisors regarding higher education, financial need, scholarship impact.  

Program Officers  
• Oversee and support regional Program Officers in their work supporting and advancing affiliate and  other community grantmaking and community scholarship programs, understanding local  community needs, and cultivating relationships with charitable organizations within their assigned  regions.  
• Work across functions and teams on regional projects and information-sharing on needs and general  knowledge of nonprofit organizations.  
• Oversee affiliate foundation grant processes, supporting grant chairs and committees in executing  annual grants program throughout the state.  
• Understand primary & grantmaking CRM platforms and functionality and develop processes for  tracking for internal team and constituents. 

Qualifications: 

Education: 
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.  
Experience: 
• Experience in philanthropic / nonprofit sector, grants management, scholarship program  administration, administrative or data management, team supervision, including 5 or more years’  work experience.

• Proficient in a variety of database, presentation tools, and social media platforms, including  Microsoft tools. 
• Focus on internal and external customer service excellence.  
• Professionalism, stewardship, and integrity.  

We offer a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to work with a committed, engaged team.  The hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000, depending upon qualifications and experience. NCCF is an equal opportunity employer.
