Donor Engagement Officer

The North Carolina Community Foundation is the single statewide community foundation serving North Carolina and has administered more than $145 million in grants since its inception in 1988. With more than $270 million in assets, NCCF sustains 1,300 endowments established to provide long-term support of a broad range of community needs, nonprofit organizations, institutions and scholarships. The NCCF partners with a network of affiliate foundations to provide local resource allocation and community assistance across the state. An important component of NCCF’s mission is to ensure that rural philanthropy has a voice at local, regional and national levels.

Job description:

This Donor Engagement Officer serves the Foundation’s fundholders, with an emphasis on those funds in western part of the state.  Core responsibilities include: cultivating relationships with donors and advisors to the Foundation’s existing funds, facilitating the fulfillment of their charitable interests, engaging them in the Foundation’s priorities and educational opportunities, managing their grant programs, and generally ensuring that fundholders receive superior customer service from the Foundation.  An important distinction to be made is that the establishment of new funds is handled by the Foundation’s Development Team.  Then, the Donor Engagement Team stewards those relationships once established.  This position falls within the Community Investment and Engagement Department.

  • High capacity for learning and for sharing information in a variety of ways to meet others’ needs

  • Strategic thinking, planning and implementation ability

  • Superior communication skills, including presentations, meeting facilitation, verbal and written communications

  • A commitment to strengthening North Carolina communities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in philanthropic/nonprofit sectors, donor engagement or community relations

  • Excellent understanding of customer service and relevant skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft

  • Office, databases, and online systems

  • Enthusiasm for travel throughout the western part of NC.  Excellent driving record required.

  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work during non-standard hours for meetings and events or for travel
