The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina's Pigeon River Fund awards grants

The Pigeon River Fund recently awarded $217,010 to environmental groups working to improve surface water quality, enhance fish and wildlife habitats, expand public use and access to waterways and increase water quality awareness in Buncombe, Haywood and Madison counties.  Since 1996, the Pigeon River Fund has distributed nearly $7 million in grants.

TheCommunity Foundation of Western North Carolina's Yancey Fund Awards $74,000 in Grants

(May 2018) – Eleven grants totaling $74,000 were recently awarded to nonprofits by The Yancey Fund, bringing total grantmaking since the Endowment’s inception to more than $1 million.  The Yancey Fund was established in 1998 by local residents as a resource for charitable efforts that benefit Yancey County.

Cumberland Community Foundation presents scholarships totaling $170,730 to 97 students

The late Dr. John R. Griffin Jr., a longtime educator in Cumberland County, would be pleased with the first recipient of a scholarship that was established by his family to acknowledge his love for education, learning and E.E. Smith High School.

Myles Nooks, a senior at E.E. Smith, was awarded the first Dr. John R. Griffin Jr. Memorial Scholarship for E.E. Smith High School on Thursday at the Cumberland Community Foundation Inc.’s 2018 Scholarship Awards Presentation.

Ninety-seven Cumberland County students, mostly high school seniors, were recipients of 59 scholarships totaling $170,730, according to the foundation’s executive Mary Holmes.

The Duke Endowment Awards More Than $32 Million in Grants

May 17, 2018 – Trustees of The Duke Endowment in Charlotte have approved more than $32 million in new grants to health care organizations in the Carolinas.
 
The Duke Endowment is one of the largest private foundations in the Southeast. Its work in North Carolina and South Carolina focuses on four program areas: Child Care, Health Care, Higher Education and rural United Methodist churches.
