Community Foundation of Gaston County Hosts Next Gen Fall Gathering

Community Foundation of Gaston County Hosts Next Gen Fall Gathering

11/1/2018

The Next Generation Fund of the Community Foundation of Gaston County hosted a successful event collecting donations for BackPack Weekend Food Program (BWFP) on Friday, October 26th. Over 100 Next Gen donors attended the “Fall Fête” benefitting the Gaston County nonprofit- a party with a purpose! The event took place in the home of Caroline and Lewis Efird in Gastonia, NC.

The Next Generation Fund is appreciative of the event sponsors: McAdenville Table & Market, Coldwell Banker Commercial MECCA, PNC Bank and Standard Distributors. The sponsors allowed the Next Generation Fund to host the event so that the funds raised will be available to provide grants to Gaston County nonprofits.

During the party, a check was presented from the Next Generation Fund to BWFP for $2,500. Donations of supplies and contributions were also made by Next Gen donors. The BackPack Weekend Food Program, Inc. provides children in need with a plastic bag of nonperishable, individually-portioned, nutritionally-balanced food to take home in their backpacks on the weekend when school meals are not available. Those students most likely to be hungry on the weekend are identified by school counselors, social workers, teachers, school nurses, and principals.

The Next Generation Fund feels strongly about supporting the community and nonprofits by awarding grants, hosting events to collect donations for the organization and supporting nonprofits through recognition.

The Next Gen, a giving circle, was founded in 2000 and since that time has granted over $165,000 to nonprofits in Gaston County. The Community Foundation of Gaston County defines a giving circle as a group of individuals pooling their money and deciding together where to grant the funds. The Next Generation Fund of the Community Foundation does just that. The fund allows individuals and couples of all ages to participate in philanthropy and also socialize with like-minded and caring community members. Impact is the key objective. Pooling resources allows people to give back in a big way, without spending big bucks. An individual may join the Next Generation Fund by an annual contribution of $75; couples $125.

The Next Generation Fund provides an opportunity for passing on the tradition of giving to our future generations. Next Gen members care, connect and contribute to make an impact in Gaston County.

How will you make an impact? Consider joining a giving circle. Anyone may join the Next Generation Fund at any time. Interested in joining?
