6/26/2018
Hendersonville, N.C., June 22, 2018 - Community Foundation of Henderson County (CFHC) is pleased to announce the following grants: $10,061 to Appalachian Wildlife Refuge, $10,061 to Blue Ridge Humane Society, and $12,500 to Conserving Carolina.  These grants are being awarded from Field of Interest Funds.

Charitable giving is often ignited by one’s passions.  Field of Interest Funds established with Community Foundation of Henderson County allow a donor to focus their giving to areas that are important to them, without restricting their dollars to a specific organization.  Field of Interest Funds are unique because they remain flexible to meet our community’s needs over time.

In response to a recent call for letters of intent in the fields of animal welfare and the environment, these three area nonprofits were approved by CFHC’s Board of Directors to receive funding for their projects.

It is estimated that 2,000 wild animals will be served in 2018 and that number increases annually.  Appalachian Wildlife Refuge coordinates the rehabilitation needs of wildlife in Western North Carolina.  The funds they receive from the Foundation will help purchase equipment and supplies for the examination and triage room in the Wildlife Urgent Care facility.  To learn more about Appalachian Wildlife Refuge visit www.appalachianwild.org.

In the past eight years Henderson County has continuously seen a higher number of pet adoptions and a decrease in euthanasia rates.  In support of these efforts, CHFC’s award assists Blue Ridge Humane Society’s Public Medical Assistance Program, Low-Cost Vaccination Program, and Foster Care Program.  To learn more about pet adoption and Blue Ridge Humane Society’s services visit www.blueridgehumane.org.

Part of a larger planned 20 mile trail loop, the third grant awarded will assist in the development of a new trailhead on Highway 74A near the Hickorynut Gap.  This trailhead will provide public access to a new three-mile trail segment.  In addition to the new trailhead Conserving Carolina will restore three acres of natural habitat that has been impacted by invasive species.  Conserving Carolina is dedicated to protecting and managing our land and water resources visit www.conservingcarolina.org to learn more.
