Cumberland Community Foundation Announces 2022 Robert H. Short Scholars Awards

Fayetteville, NC – Cumberland Community Foundation has announced the twenty-one recipients of the 2022 Robert H. Short Scholars Awards representing over $600,000 in awards. This last-dollar-in award provides up to $7,500 per year for up to four years for a total of $30,000 per student (and $630,000 overall). High school seniors from Cumberland County, NC are eligible to apply and are selected based on financial need, academic achievement, and community service or work history.
 
Gail Riddle, Vice Chair of the foundation’s board of directors and chair of the Robert H. Shorts Scholars Committee, said, “These twenty-one students are outstanding. We know that Bob Short would be so pleased. We take stewardship of his generous scholarship gift very seriously. His original $10 million gift has grown to $15 million and has distributed over $4.5 million in scholarships. That is the amazing legacy of Bob Short.”

Established in 1980, Cumberland Community Foundation is a nonprofit charitable foundation that accepts donations and administers endowments for the benefit of the community.  The foundation manages 575 individual charitable funds totaling over $128 million. The community foundation awards grants to 501(c)3 charitable organizations according to the charitable purpose designed by the donors.
