Cumberland Community Foundation Opens Community Scholarship Season

2/19/2019

$167,000 in Education Awards Available

Fayetteville, NC – Cumberland Community Foundation invites students to apply for scholarships to attend college during 2019/2020 through its Community Scholarship Program. The awards budget is $167,000 for the 2019/2020 college year.

Applications and detailed instructions are now available on the foundation’s website (www.cumberlandcf.org).  The individual awards range in amount from $500.00 to $10,000.00 per year. Funding for the scholarships comes from scholarship endowment funds created by local individuals who value higher education and want to help others achieve their potential.  Each donor designed the eligibility, priorities, and application process for their scholarship endowment.

The deadline to apply for the awards is March 15, 2019.  Many awards are based on financial need and require applicants to submit their Student Aid Report or “SAR” which results from submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  “Some awards are not based on financial need, but most are,” said Susan Barnes, Scholarship Manager.  “If students have a valid email address, the Student Aid Report will be available online once the FAFSA has been completed.  Students should allow enough time to complete their FAFSA application online in order to upload the Student Aid Report into their application by the scholarship deadline.”

Awards require an application through the community foundation’s online application system.  A complete listing of scholarship awards, application instructions, and eligibility information are available on the foundation’s website www.cumberlandcf.org.  For more information, contact Susan Barnes, Scholarship Manager (910) 483-4449 ext. 108 or susan@cumberlandcf.org.

Additional information on financial aid is available at two websites:  College Foundation of NC www.cfnc.org  and Free Application for Federal Student Aid www.fafsa.ed.gov.
