Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust Announces Shenell Thompson as Local Impact of Forsyth County Senior Program Officer

4/22/2020
WINSTON-SALEM—The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust is pleased to announce Shenell Thompson, currently founder and CEO of Brick by Brick Consulting NC, will join the Trust in May as Local Impact in Forsyth County senior program officer.

Shenell will oversee the Trust’s grantmaking activities to create long-term, sustainable solutions for vulnerable and underserved communities in Forsyth County. Specifically, Shenell will work with grantees and partners to build an inclusive economy in Forsyth County, to foster economic mobility for those with the greatest need and develop lasting solutions to the root causes of poverty and inequality. She will also manage the Trust’s special initiative, Great Expectations, to ensure children in Forsyth County—especially those in families living in poverty—are prepared for success in school and life by the time they finish kindergarten. Shenell will work closely with the program team as the Trust works toward thriving communities, thriving residents, equitable access to care, and equitable health outcomes throughout the state of North Carolina.

“We are thrilled that Shenell is joining our team at the Trust,” said Dr. Laura Gerald, president of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust. “She brings deep experience working in community to address inequities and create systemic change, and she understands the importance of listening to and learning from the people who are most impacted by health, education, and economic barriers. Her leadership and knowledge will be invaluable as the Trust continues its work to improve the health and quality of life for families with low incomes in our own backyard and around the state.”

As CEO of Brick by Brick Consulting, Shenell provides direct support to nonprofits working to address racial disparities, asset building, and economic mobility. Prior to founding Brick by Brick Consulting in 2018, Shenell was the director of assets and opportunities for Financial Pathways of the Piedmont for 15 years and program assistant at Simon Green Atkins CDC for three years.

“I am excited to join the Trust as it works to change the systems that have held communities back for too long,” said Shenell Thompson. “This role will provide me with an opportunity to support organizations and residents working to address disparities in education, health care and financial stability for households of color and people living in poverty. As a senior program officer at the Trust, I look forward to continuing my work to make a difference in the Forsyth County community.”

Shenell serves on the North Carolina Asset Alliance and Prosperity Now committees. She is the former chairperson of the Asset Building Coalition of Forsyth County and a graduate of Leadership Winston-Salem. She holds a master’s degree from Webster University in human resources development and management and a bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State University. She resides in Winston-Salem with her family.
