Katherine “Kathy” Milam has been named the new Executive Director of the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region.

Milam is currently the Executive Director of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History and previously served as agency grant writer for the Danville Pittsylvania Community Services.  She is a graduate of Emory University and has lived in Danville since 1990 with her husband, Judge Joseph Milam. Kathy is a certified paralegal and certified in nonprofit management through Duke University Continuing Studies. She is active in several long-standing civic organizations, and is past president of the Danville Riverview Rotary, Garden Club of Danville and Danville Concert Association.

Debra Dodson is retiring after serving 20 years as the Executive Director of The Community Foundation. Bob Wiles was the first director who helped to found the organization.

“We are so pleased to welcome Kathy Milam as our next Executive Director,” said Board President Charles Strauss. “We feel confident she will continue to build the region’s trust in The Community Foundation.”

The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is an independent, public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of local civic leaders to gather permanent funds to support our area. The Community Foundation has assets of more than $35 million and has awarded more than $21 million in grants and scholarships.

While the Foundation works with donors to establish funds to benefit any geographic area, our primary service area is Danville/Pittsylvania County, Virginia and Caswell County, North Carolina. Donations are also being sought to build up resources for South Boston/Halifax County, with consideration being given to other neighboring counties.
