7/10/2018

NCCF announces the opening of a grants program that will award $500,000 annually in eastern NC from the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment. Nonprofit programs serving education, health and human services in one or more of 41 eastern North Carolina counties are eligible to apply.

The online grants cycle opens July 10 and closes at NOON, August 20, with recipients announced this fall. Grants will typically range from $25,000 to $50,000. Visit this webpage for full details and eligibility.

NCCF was excited to announce the establishment of the $20 million Burevitch Endowment in 2015. This is the Foundation’s largest estate gift to date and is important because of its potential to transform the eastern portion of our state.

The endowment has been granting to Burevitch’s named nonprofits since 2015, when the plan was announced for a portion of the endowment to grow before commencing the competitive portion of the grants program this year. Nearly $1.4 million has been granted to her named charities thusfar. The competitive portion of the program will grant about $500,000 annually.

“Mrs. B,” as Burevitch was known to her friends, was a Wilmington native whose generosity was well-known in southeastern North Carolina and beyond. The story of her philanthropy can be found here.
