7/2/2018

The North Carolina Community Foundation announces the opening of a grants program that will total $500,000 annually from the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment, according to Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, NCCF president and CEO. Nonprofit programs serving education, health and human services in 41 eastern North Carolina counties are eligible to apply

The online grants cycle opens July 10 and closes at noon, Aug. 20, with awards announced this fall. Grants will typically range from $25,000 to $50,000. Visit nccommunityfoundation.org and click on “Other grant opportunities” for full details and eligibility on the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment page.
NCCF was excited to announce the establishment of the $20 million Burevitch Endowment in 2015, according to Tolle Whiteside. “This is the Foundation’s largest estate gift to date and is important because of its potential to transform the eastern portion of our state,” she said.
The endowment has been granting to Burevitch’s named nonprofits since 2015, when the plan was announced for a portion of the endowment to grow before commencing the competitive portion of the grants program this year. Nearly $1.4 million has been granted to her named charities to date, according to Leslie Ann Jackson, NCCF director of grants and scholarships. The competitive portion of the program will grant about $500,000 annually, she said.
“Mrs. B,” as Burevitch was known to her friends, was a Wilmington native whose generosity was well-known in southeastern North Carolina and beyond. The story of her philanthropy can be found at nccommuityfoundation.org.
