The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region Receives a $100,000 Challenge Grant for Coronavirus Relief Fund

4/13/2020
Danville, VA (April 8, 2020) – The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region (CFDRR) has received a $100,000 challenge grant from the Danville Regional Foundation (DRF) benefitting the Coronavirus Relief Fund. This fund was recently established to help nonprofit organizations respond locally to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For every donation made by community members and organizations to the fund by May 31, DRF will match that amount dollar for dollar up to $100,000.

“DRF is proud to contribute to this fund and partner with others to provide financial assistance where it’s needed most right now. We hope that this grant encourages others to give and give generously,” said Clark Casteel, president & CEO of the Danville Regional Foundation. “While this may be a time of great uncertainty, we can be certain that in contributing to this fund, our whole community can work to face this challenging time together.”

CFDRR has prioritized the most compelling areas of need that will benefit from the Coronavirus Relief Fund. Initially, grant funding will support nonprofit organizations that provide community safety nets for crucial services in the following sectors: food insecurity, utilities, rent, childcare, and small business.

Grants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, groups fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or other charitable organizations able to receive a tax-deductible contribution, such as schools, faith-based organizations, and other public entities.
“DRF has challenged this community to support our area nonprofits, and I know that we will succeed in meeting this goal,” said Kathy Milam, executive director of The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region. “The Dan River Region is a caring and giving community that always steps in when there is a need. By donating to this relief fund, you will be helping local nonprofits, which in turn will provide direct support for our neighbors in Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County.”

Donations of any amount are welcomed and all contributions are tax deductible.
Gifts can be made payable to “The Community Foundation” for the Coronavirus Relief Fund. Gifts may be mailed to 541 Loyal Street, Danville, VA 24541 or made online at www.cfdrr.org under the Giving tab.
