Todd Dalrymple Promoted to Program Officer at The Duke Endowment

Todd W. Dalrymple has been named a program officer at The Duke Endowment, where he will help lead the Endowment’s new strategic emphasis on early childhood issues.

A native of Ashburn, Va., Dalrymple graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a major in Political Science and Peace, War & Defense and a minor in Geography. After graduation, he spent three years teaching elementary school for Baltimore City Public Schools through Teach for America. During his time in Baltimore, Dalrymple earned a Master’s of Teaching at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Education.

As a Fellow at The Duke Endowment from 2012-2014, Dalrymple specialized in impact investing and early childhood literacy. His assistance with the Endowment’s literacy efforts led him to pursue a Master’s of Education at Harvard University after his Fellowship. He returned to the Endowment in 2015 as a Research and Program Analyst.

As a program officer, Dalrymple will focus on early childhood issues and the Endowment’s Zero to Eight emphasis. Initially, this new emphasis will involve special initiatives, such as the Endowment’s work with Blue Meridian Partners, a collaborative effort among multiple funders seeking to expand evidence-based programs serving economically disadvantaged children. The foundation will also be expanding early childhood grantmaking in its existing program areas, and plans to work with specific communities that are targeting services for children ages 0 to 8.

“Todd’s analytical skills have helped us explore the vast research regarding early childhood interventions and their long-term benefits,” said Meka Sales, director of special initiatives at the Endowment. “He adds valuable expertise, particularly as a former public school educator, as we work together toward better outcomes for children and families.”

Based in Charlotte, N.C., and established in 1924 by industrialist and philanthropist James B. Duke, The Duke Endowment is a private foundation that strengthens communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds and enriching spirits. Since its founding, it has awarded more than $3.4 billion in grants. The Endowment shares a name with Duke University and Duke Energy, but they are separate organizations.
