Laughing Gull Foundation Welcomes New LGBTQ Equality Program Officer

Durham, NC – The Laughing Gull Foundation (LGF) is pleased to announce that Christopher J. Cuevas (they/them) will join the staff of the Foundation as the LGBTQ Equality Program Officer in October 2020. In this role, Christopher will help guide LGF's grantmaking focused on supporting the LGBTQ community in the U.S. South to exist without discrimination and live full lives. 

The Trust Announces Director of Programs Adam Linker, Senior Program Officer Madison Allen

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust is excited to announce a new director of programs and Health Improvement senior program officer. Adam Linker, currently a senior program officer at the Trust, has been promoted to director of programs. Madison Allen, senior policy attorney at the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), will join the Trust team in November as Health Improvement senior program officer.

Unsung Suffragist Book Club features Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All and Author Dr. Martha Jones to join October 21 virtual event

Marking the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of the 19^th Amendment, and acknowledging that not all American women secured the right to vote in 1920, The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem and MUSE Winston-Salem invite readers to join the Unsung Suffragists Book Club for a community reading experience of Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All, by Martha S. Jones. Recently released by Basic Books, Vanguard is described as an “epic history of African American women’s pursuit of political power,” which chronicles the role of Black women in fighting to secure the ballot for all Americans from the early republic through the Voting Rights Act of 1965. 

COVID-19 Response Fund Distributes Final Round of Grants

Hendersonville, N.C., September 9, 2020 – The Henderson County COVID-19 Response Fund was formed in March through a joint effort between United Way of Henderson County (UWHC) and Community Foundation of Henderson County (CFHC) to meet increased needs for essential safety-net services caused by the coronavirus health crisis. On Thursday, September 3, the Response Fund’s ninth and final round of grants were awarded totaling $57,466.

Black Philanthropy Initiative Announces Impact Grant Recipients during Black Philanthropy Month

The Black Philanthropy Initiative (BPI) announces $26,800 in grants awarded from the Black Philanthropy Fund’s Impact Grants program. BPI’s Impact Grants are investments in local programs, projects, and initiatives that support issues impacting the black community in Forsyth County. This program looks to invest in black-led organizations/groups with annual budgets of less than $150,000, recognizing that there are local groups/organizations doing impactful work that are newer and/or have smaller budgets than their counterparts.

Cumberland Community Foundation Kicks Off 40th Anniversary

Fayetteville, N.C., August 26, 2020—Cumberland Community Foundation (CCF) is kicking off its 40th anniversary announcing over $1,000,000 in grants and scholarships. This month, the foundation will award $400,000 in general support grants to some of its longtime nonprofit partners and over $700,000 in college scholarships to local students.
