United Way and Community Foundation Announce First Round of COVID-19 Response Grants to Area Nonprofits

Hendersonville, N.C., April 3, 2020 – United Way of Henderson County and Community Foundation of Henderson County have announced the recipients of the first round of relief grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund. The awards are aiding organizations which are working directly with individuals affected by the coronavirus crisis in Henderson County.

As we think about what we need in North Carolina to get through the coronavirus crisis, individually and collectively, we need to include our local news providers in our thinking and our immediate relief efforts. McGrady Family Contributes $100,000 to Henderson County COVID-19 Response Fund

Hendersonville, N.C., April 1, 2020 – A newly created emergency response fund to assist Henderson County nonprofits responding to the coronavirus received a $100,000 gift this week from Chuck and Jean McGrady, Mike McGrady, and Kathy McGrady.

Gaston Community Foundation and First Gaston Foundation make $100,000 Contribution to Virus Relief Fund

Gaston Community Foundation and the First Gaston Foundation Fund (a fund held by the Community Foundation) announce a $100,000 grant to the Gaston County Virus Relief Fund. The Gaston Community Foundation is supporting $50,000 and the First Gaston Foundation Fund is also supporting $50,000 towards the relief. "The Community Foundation is working in partnership with the United Way to provide funding to nonprofits serving on the front lines of the virus. We have dedicated staff, resources and our own funding to ensure we can help those most impacted by the virus," stated Ernest Sumner, President GCF.

Community Foundation of the Dan River Region Launches Coronavirus Relief Fund

With a tremendous sense of empathy and urgency, The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region has launched a Coronavirus Relief Fund. This is a critical time—for foundations, corporations, individuals and organizations to step up and combine resources to address and limit negative impacts from the current public health crisis to the people and communities of our region. The Community Foundation has committed $25,000 in seed money to establish the Fund, and requests contributions to meet immediate and ongoing needs.

Dr. Tunde Sotunde elected as Blue Cross NC President, CEO

Durham, NC – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina’s (Blue Cross NC) Board of Trustees has elected Tunde Sotunde MD, MBA, FAAP as its new President and CEO. Dr. Sotunde will lead the company in its efforts to transform health care in North Carolina beginning June 1.
