The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina awards $379,787 in focus area grants

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) approved six focus area grants totaling $379,787 to support regional projects in Early Childhood Development, Food and Farming, and Natural and Cultural Resources as well as $200,000 to expand a matched-savings program at OnTrack Financial Education and Counseling funded through the People in Need focus area.

Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Honors Former Trustee John O. McNairy with a $250,000 Gift to Cars for College Program

Winston-Salem, NC (August 26, 2019) – To commemorate former Trustee John O. McNairy’s 20 years of service to the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, Trustees have gifted an honorarium of $250,000 to Lenoir Community College Foundation to help launch its Cars for College program, an economic mobility initiative that will secure transportation for students who are enrolled in Lenoir Community College and earning college credit. The intended outcome is to remove the mobility barriers that often prevent students from owning and operating a safe and dependable motor vehicle.

Black Philanthropy Initiative Announces 2019 Grant Recipients during Black Philanthropy Month

The Black Philanthropy Initiative (BPI) announces $25,000 in grants awarded from the Black Philanthropy Fund’s tenth grant cycle, supporting programs that are improving the lives of African Americans in the area of Advancing Racial Equity in Education. Proposals were requested that addressed outcome gaps in the education-to-career continuum within the following focus areas: post-secondary education pathways, talent & workforce development; career advancement; and economic security and mobility.

Nonprofit professionals looking for tools and strategies to do a better job can now find materials online or borrow from recently added items at the State Library of North Carolina’s Government and Heritage Library.

Wayne County nonprofits awarded more than $33,000 in Hurricane Florence recovery grants from the North Carolina Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund

The board of advisors of the Wayne County Community Foundation was recently awarded $33,750 in recovery grants from the North Carolina Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund to support the long-term recovery of the local community from Hurricane Florence.
