Foundation Fair 2018

After much consideration, and conversations with our event partners and contacts in Wilmington, we’ve decided to cancel the Foundation Fair scheduled for October 16th. After the devastating impacts of Hurricane Florence, much of the region is still very much in a disaster recovery mode. We hope to reschedule this for a time when it will be beneficial - and not a burden - for the nonprofit organizations in eastern North Carolina.
Our intent is to reschedule the Foundation Fair. If we are able to do this, we will let current registrants sign up first before opening registration to additional participants. Please remember to cancel any reservations you may have made in advance of your participation in the Foundation Fair.

The Foundation Fair will be held in Wilmington at the Warwick Center at UNC-Wilmington on October 16th, 2018. There will be a morning session from 10:00 am-11:45 am and an afternoon session from 12:45 pm-2:30 pm. Space is limited for this event, we ask that your organization registers for only one session for the Foundation Fair, and that no more than 2 representatives attend the selected session. Registration is free, but required. Registration for the Foundation Fair will close on October 9th.

Each fall, foundations and nonprofits throughout the state gather for a "career-fair" style event which serves as an opportunity for foundations and nonprofits to have quick interactions learning more about each other's funding needs and interests.  Participating nonprofits and foundations have both found it useful to get to learn more about each other.

Preparing for the Foundation Fair

Please take a moment to watch this video which introduces the Foundation Fair and provides tips on how to make the most of your time at the event from NCNG's Program Director, Sarah Mann Willcox, and the NC Center for Nonprofits' Director of Sustainainability, Rob Maddrey.

You will receive an email with an information packet no later than one week in advance of the Fair. This packet will include any final details for the Foundation Fair and one-pagers on each participating foundation. We encourage you to read through these one-pagers to gain a better sense of what foundations missions and funding interests align with your organization. This way you can know in advance who will be a good fit for you to talk to at the Foundation Fair, and you can plan your time accordingly. You may bring your own copy of the informational packet, we will not have printed copies for attendees.

A Look Into a Typical Session

You may arrive any time during the two-hour session you registered for, all nonprofit attendees are welcome to come and go throughout the session. Upon arrival you will check in at NCNG's table and pick up your nametag. After check-in you are free to meet with as many foundation staff members as you'd like, please note that there are often lines to meet with these organizations, and you will be able to have only brief interactions with each organziation.

What to Bring

We encourage you to bring the following:

  • A pen and a small notebook to take notes on your conversations.
  • Business cards
  • One-pagers on your organization to give to funders.
