Wierman Leaving Foundation to Become President and CEO of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 18, 2020)—Scott F. Wierman, who has served as president of The Winston-Salem Foundation since 1997, has been named president and chief executive officer of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, which is based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  Wierman joined The Winston-Salem Foundation as senior vice president for donor services in 1988 and will continue to serve as president until late fall 2020.

HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION OF CLEVELAND COUNTY GRANTEE WINS STATE AWARD WE REACH Transit/TACC captures Innovation Award

(SHELBY, NC) – One of the most recent opportunities for additional transportation services was established in 2017 with the advent of a REACH bus running from a low-income high-risk neighborhood around Graham Elementary School to fixed stops around the city. The Transportation Administration of Cleveland County (TACC) was awarded a 2020 NC Department of Transportation MOBI Innovation Award for the REACH Transit Route Project.

Outer Banks Community Foundation Awards $65,000 to Help Families with Childcare, Remote Learning

The Outer Banks Community Foundation has awarded more than $65,000 in emergency funding to local nonprofits. The grants will help families in Dare County afford childcare and tutoring during the COVID-19 school closures.
“Our schools are starting in 10 days with remote learning, which will safeguard our students and teachers through the COVID crisis, but will also present a tremendous challenge for working families who cannot stay home with their kids,” said Lorelei Costa, the Community Foundation’s executive director.“The Community Foundation is working to address this urgent need by helping nonprofits offer new childcare and tutoring programs in our community, and by offering scholarships to help families afford these and other educational programs.”

SECU Foundation Awards over $3 Million in Grants to 34 Non-Profits Affected by COVID-19

Raleigh, N.C. – SECU Foundation is pleased to announce the third phase of its COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts, in which over $3 million in grants were awarded to thirty-four North Carolina non-profits to support their operational needs.  Organizations across the state adversely affected by the crisis are in dire need of financial assistance to offset mounting expenses and to continue their mission of providing valuable services in communities of North Carolina.  The grants, distributed over the past several weeks, provide much needed support to a diverse group of non-profits that SECU Foundation has assisted over the last 15 years.  These organizations span all regions of our State and help meet essential needs in the areas of healthcare and human services.  Examples include hospice care, healthcare centers, domestic violence and homeless shelters, and addiction recovery centers.

LGF Responds to Impact of COVID on LGBTQ BIPOC Communities

Durham, NC –The Laughing Gull Foundation has increased its annual payout by $250,000 to the LGBTQ Equality Program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The additional funding prioritizes twelve LGF grantee partner organizations supporting the immediate needs of LGBTQ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities disproportionately impacted by this public health crisis.

The Cannon Foundation Announces New Executive Director

Concord, NC - The Board of Directors of The Cannon Foundation are pleased to announce the selection of Tina Markanda as Executive Director of the Foundation effective September 1. Ms. Markanda is currently the Executive Director of The Foundation for a Healthy High Point, where she has served since 2014 when the foundation was established. As the foundation’s inaugural executive director, she worked with the board to develop their programs on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Early Childhood Intervention, Behavioral Health, and programs to support capacity-building efforts for not for profit community organizations.
