Community Foundation of Henderson County Releases 2019 Annual Report

Hendersonville, N.C., December 20, 2019

Community Foundation of Henderson County is pleased to announce the release of their 2019 Annual Report. “Due to the generosity of our community’s donors, more than $4.4 million in charitable grants and scholarships were awarded this past fiscal year to a multitude of causes,” said Foundation President/CEO McCray V. Laughing Gull Foundation Announces New Higher Education in Prison Program Officer

The Laughing Gull Foundation is pleased to announce that Terrell A. Blount will join the staff of the Foundation as the Higher Education in Prison Program Officer in January 2020. In this role, Terrell will help guide LGF’s grantmaking program that centers around increasing access to and improving the delivery of credit-bearing college courses in prisons in the South, as well as supporting students’ successful transition from college in prison to college in the community.

The Winston-Salem Foundation Announces Centennial Gift to the Community

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Tonight at the Foundation’s event, Better Communities and Better Lives: A Keynote and Conversation with David Brooks at R.J. Reynolds Auditorium, the Foundation’s President Scott Wierman announced a centennial gift to the community to commemorate the Foundation’s establishment 100 years ago in 1919.

15 Local Nonprofit Organizations Addressing Poverty Funded as Collective Giving Challenge Exceeds Goal; $400,000 Granted Over Two Years

Donors joined together with Triangle Community Foundation throughout the fall to raise $74,250 for 15 vital nonprofits addressing poverty through the Foundation’s Giving Together program. 122 applications were received in this cycle, of which the advisory committee reviewed 60 and determined 20 finalists who got site visits. Ultimately, 15 organizations were funded at either $20k or $40k over two years, totaling $400k over two years.

The Foundation for a Healthy High Point Awards Grants to Five Non-Profits

High Point, N.C. — On December 4, 2019 the Board of Directors for The Foundation for a Healthy High Point — a private foundation that invests in the advancement of health and wellness for High Point residents — approved a total of $420,400 in grants to local non-profits. Approximately 50% of the awarded funds were for Healthy Beginnings, the Foundation’s strategic initiative focused on teen pregnancy prevention and early childhood development.

Applications for Community Foundation of Henderson County WINS grants due by January 15

Hendersonville, N.C., December 5, 2019 – Community Foundation of Henderson County is now accepting applications for their Women in Need of Support (WINS) grants. Established in 1989, the Women in Need of Support (WINS) Endowment Fund is the product of seven women from Henderson County dedicated to helping women improve their lives. Details, guidelines, and application information is available on the Community Foundation website, www.CFHCforever.org. Additionally, Senior Program Officer Lee Henderson-Hill can be reached at (828) 697-6224 or Lhenderson-hill@CFHCforever.org to answer questions or provide additional information about the WINS program. WINS grant applications are due to Community Foundation by Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 5 p.m.

Carteret Community Foundation awards more than $64,000 in local grants

The board of advisors of the Carteret Community Foundation recently announced $64,460 in local grant awards from its community grantmaking fund, J. O. and Ruth Barbour Memorial Fund for Elementary Education in Carteret County, J. O. and Ruth Barbour Memorial Fund for Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Pearl's Pantry Fund, according to Terry Robertson, board president.

Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast Announced

Hendersonville, N.C., November 18, 2019 – The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast Committee is pleased to announce the 2020 celebration to be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Blue Ridge Community College’s Technology Education & Development Center in the Blue Ridge Conference Hall.
