United Way and Community Foundation Announce First Round of COVID-19 Response Grants to Area Nonprofits

Hendersonville, N.C., April 3, 2020 – United Way of Henderson County and Community Foundation of Henderson County have announced the recipients of the first round of relief grants from the COVID-19 Response Fund. The awards are aiding organizations which are working directly with individuals affected by the coronavirus crisis in Henderson County.

 

Grants were awarded Friday morning to 11 organizations, bringing the total of the first round of coronavirus-related grants to $63,000 since the Henderson County COVID-19 Response Fund was first established on March 20.

The first round of grants were awarded to:
• Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County for daily cleaning of their facility to enable childcare for first responders and essential school personnel. ($3,000)
• Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry for weekly food boxes. ($2,500)
• Children & Family Resource Center for diapers, wipes, and formula for families in Henderson County and cleaning supplies for childcare centers. ($3,000)
• Community Food Pantry in Edneyville for weekly food boxes. ($2,500)
• Council on Aging for Henderson County for Meals on Wheels and liquid nutrition. ($10,000)
• Four Seasons Hospice for personal protective equipment (PPE), hand sanitizer, and iPads for patient/family visits. ($10,000)
• Hendersonville Spanish SDA Church for food boxes, rent and utility assistance. ($4,500)
• Interfaith Assistance Ministry for weekly food and personal hygiene boxes, rent and utility assistance, gas vouchers, and clothing. ($10,000)
• The Salvation Army of Hendersonville for their food pantry, financial assistance for
power, rent, and utilities. ($2,500)
• The Storehouse for weekly food boxes and homebound food delivery. ($5,000)
• True Ridge for food delivery, domestic violence support, rent and utility assistance for Latinx community. ($10,000)

This is the first series of coronavirus-related grants United Way and Community Foundation will award from the COVID-19 Response Fund. An advisory committee of representatives from local government and community institutions working directly with impacted populations will proactively identify emerging community needs, strategies to meet those needs, and potential grant recipients. The Fund Distribution Committee is reviewing applications and determining awards on a rolling basis making it possible to move resources quickly.

An application form for organizations to request funds is available on both United Way’s (www.liveunitedhc.org) and Community Foundation’s (www.cfhcforever.org) websites.

Donations to the Response Fund are still needed as applications and local nonprofits’ needs are increasing as the spread of the virus and its economic impact are continuing.
