Senior Director of Finance

Overview: The Senior Director of Finance for The Industrial Commons is a full-time position that is responsible for the fiscal direction and management of The Industrial Commons including oversight of day-to-day financial and administrative operations. This position works collaboratively with the Development Director, Financial and Grants Director, and Program Managers to ensure grant compliance. Additionally, this person serves as The Industrial Commons management liaison with the Executive team and Board of Directors. It is strongly preferred for this individual to be located in Morganton, although not required. Preference will be given to North Carolina residents, or applicants willing to relocate.

Job description:

Examples of Responsibilities and Duties:
● Management of all fiscal and administrative division staff in the performance of day-to-day accounting and administrative functions
● Interact with staff to ensure effective communication regarding financial matters
● Follow, maintain and create financial policies and procedures as relevant
● Content and quality review of all internal and external financial and compliance reporting ● Oversee the accounting, A/P, and grant funding functions to ensure best practice and compliance with all applicable, legal, regulatory standards
● Provides expertise on federal grant compliance and interpretation of OMB Circulars and all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures in collaboration with staff
● Provides expertise on audit requirements for Federal awards to non-Federal entities as outlined in 2 CFR Part 200 Subpart F, (single or program-specific audits)
● Develop and monitor the implementation of long range financial plans with staff
● Prepare financial reports for board meetings of The Industrial Commons and attend meetings to provide reports and answer any questions
● Manage the annual financial audit process and single or program-specific audits
● Work with outside accountants and CPAs contracted by the organizations for filing taxes, audits or other purposes including gaining a deeper understanding for the organizations of the social enterprise model
● Coordination of the development and administration of The Industrial Commons annual operating budget in participation with program directors
● Monitor budget performance and prepare and analyze monthly budget variance reports for distribution to The Industrial Commons management
● Manage revenue and expense projections
● Ensure proper financial documentation is kept for grants and grant reporting
● Management of all grant contracts
● Management of grant reporting in partnership with Development Director
● Lead investment committee, ensure compliance with investment policies
● Management of The Industrial Commons’s cash, liquidity and investments portfolio
● Other duties as assigned

Organizational Development:
● Review current resources and participate in the development of new resources and tools ● Participate in quarterly trainings/workshops, quarterly check-ins with Co-Directors, monthly and weekly staff meetings
● Participate in funder meetings and other events as needed
● Build and maintain relationships with partners
● Speak on and promote the organization, its vision and values
● Assist the organization with other organizational development goals as assigned

Skills and Experience Required:
● Between 7-10 years of experience as an accountant or in business administration
● Requires an advanced degree in Business Administration or Accounting
● Strong analytical skills and practical experience and expertise in financial and accounting policies, practices, and system
● Demonstrated track record in meeting compliance including federal regulations, best practice standards for finance, investment, and/or accounting
● Familiarity with federal regulation 2 CFR part 200, including single audits
● Ability to determine revenue recognition in relation to nonprofit accounting
● Asses and propose strategies to manage organizational risk
● Understanding of GAAP- basis accounting
● Strong written, verbal, organizational, team building, leadership and analytical skills.
● Demonstrate a high level of personal commitment to the mission of TIC
● Experience with financial management of capital investment projects and New Market Tax Credits (Preferred but not required)

Physical and Mental Abilities:
● Ability to lift and move boxes up to 40 pounds
● Work can at times produce mental and visual fatigue due to sustained periods of concentration, working on a computer and working under pressure of deadlines
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and interpret verbal communication
● Works in a typical office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather

Compensation, Benefits and Conditions:
● Salary: $80,000-$84,000 (based on experience)
● Mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal rate; use of rental car will be encouraged if more cost efficient
● Position will start with a 90-day probationary period
● Cell phone reimbursement $80
● 144 hrs of PTO at beginning of each year, increases with time at organization
● 8 Paid Holidays and additional 3 Optional Holidays (Prorated based on hours worked)
● TIC will support upgrades to resources and tools needed to carry out the work
● Paid 30 min lunch
